We have more to be thankful for than most people on this planet.

Happy Thanksgiving to those who post and lurk, and those who keep this forum up and running and safe from zombies, I mean bots.

SofaD, I used to laugh at those government worker jokes. But as I get older and my taxes continue to go up, and I see how wasteful our government is, I can no longer laugh.

I like the prayer, "Dear God, please give me patience. And hurry up about it!)

I don't think your state rep is going to be of any help.

If this is your first problem, that in itself is something to be grateful for. It doesn't get the electricity turned on, but it may help your blood pressure stay down, at least to a manageable level.

Here's something you probably do not want to do. If, however, you do, make sure Rose gets a video of it.

I've enjoyed reading about the progress on your shop.

General Discussion / Re: Sewing vinyl
« on: November 18, 2017, 10:25:47 AM »
Thank you Paul. I had not thought of adding an additional piece of fabric.

It's my understanding that I can tighten my bobbin thread only to a certain tightness. I then adjust my top thread accordingly. I'm I correct in this? If so, how would I tighten the stitch?

I'm working with an expensive vinyl. It has a felt type backing.

When I sew two pieces together, I can pull the pieces at the seam and I can see the thread. It's a light blue vinyl and I'm using a white thread.

My sewing machine is adjusted correctly.

Is the only solution to use a light blue thread, or is that a way to tighten my stitch? It stays tight when using fabric.

Thanks,

I hear they've got pills that will take care of Mr. Softy.

Forth rule: if it looks dangerous, let someone else try it first.

Fifth rule: Never run with scissors in your hands unless they are pointed at someone else and you intend to do serious bodily injury to them.

Sixth rule: Check with your doctor before having sex if you are in an area where ice cream trucks are know to frequent.

General Discussion / Re: cat pee
« on: November 10, 2017, 10:21:15 PM »
We have two cats. One started spraying last year, and again a few times this year. We use a cleaner with enzymes designed for cat urine. If you do not remove the smell totally the cat will continue to spray on that spot. My wife also bought an electric shock mat to keep the cat off the sofa that he was using to stand on to spray on the wall.

I have no idea what would get the smell out of furniture that has been peed on for years and years. We thought of putting our cat down after a few sprays. How people are able to not clean up immediately I do not know.

Our cat wears a collar that has some type of calming chemical on it that keeps him mellowed out. At least that's what the vet said. I think the cat heard us talking about putting him down and decided to stop spraying.

Our resident cat pee expert, Keith, is retired but he may still check in from time to time.

Spray a lot of Fabreeze while working on that furniture is my only suggestion.

Are you talking about the mistress or the ice cream truck?

I thought those pants that you can wear when cutting wood with a chain saw were a joke. But then I saw a video of them in action.

Or that table saw that stops the blade in a fraction of a second if your finger or skin touch the spinning blade.

I have a scar on my hand where my hot iron fell off my cutting table and I instinctively tried to catch it.

KodyD: Your achilles tendon is between your calf and heal. That's where the real damage could have occurred. But then, you could always tell people your limp was from an old football injury instead of from incompetence with an electric turkey knife. (You do use your foam cutter for the turkey don't you?)

Accidents happen. Be safe out there.

General Discussion / Poly batting versus cotton
« on: October 27, 2017, 10:18:02 PM »
On wing back chairs, for example, when I want to add a bit of padding to the inside back or the arms, is there any difference in using poly batting or cotton?

Cotton seems to give more support on the arms and it doesn't seem to make a difference on the inside backs.

Does anyone use poly batting on these areas?

I like using poly batting on the outside panels because it seems to go faster for me than using cotton and it does not seem to make a difference.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Steve, in looking at the first picture: I usually get any bugs off the furniture before I start working on it. :-)

Just joking to ease the loss of my yellow lab of 12 years who died two days ago. They do grab your heart, no matter what size they come in. This was our 3rd and final lab. Our next dog will be ceramic. (I know. I've been told that I'm saying that now but just wait awhile.)

I've enjoyed your pictures and comments on this project. I said before I hope it has been a labor of love.

I can feel your pain on getting so close to the end of a project and running into problems. Been there, done that. As I'm sure we all have.

Looking forward to the final pictures.

"Besides, a Russian bot - or any bot - would not be able to post relevant answers to your question/comments."

I could say that bots are getting pretty sophisticated these days. But I won't. :-)

I literally learned about Poe's Law this evening.

Poe's law is an adage of Internet culture stating that, without a clear indicator of the author's intent, it is impossible to create a parody of extreme views so obviously exaggerated that it cannot be mistaken by some readers or viewers as a sincere expression of the parodied views.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poe%27s_law

Inger: I do apologize for any trouble I caused by not making it clear that I was joking. Maybe the "paranoid American" comment was a bit too real. :-)

We had a spammer a few years ago and so many people replied to it with such funny comments that Ken posted a note saying that he was having too much fun reading it to delete it immediately.

I will certainly not reply to any more spammers.

And again, on a serious note, thank you for your help. I just got my first smart phone this year so I certainly do not have the tech savvy to be of any help to you. If I did, I would certainly volunteer.
