Right - it's NYC - the roads are crumbling, they want to close Rikers Island, the bike lanes and pedestrian Plazas prevent traffic from flowing, and the rent for a 1 bedroom apt is $ 2000.00 - $ 4000.00 - depending on the neighborhood.
Great opportunity here but I wonder if I'll be able to stay here and afford the property taxes - larger houses near me have 3000 sq ft and pay
$ 32,000.00 a year in property tax - $ 125.00 / month for water, gas + electric includes heat + central air $ 700.00 -

Gene you're right - I'm not all there Smiley Thanks for reminding me !
Anyway I was working in the area and the real draw were two large cement statues that were in the way of construction of a bridge and the Museum took them in. I went inside the building  -  the painting was being guarded because someone had defaced it.  The Mayor was protesting it and the city was well divided.  There were other exhibits there that I wouldn't call art but they did -   They had dead animals cut in half sealed in acrylic boxes with flies eating the flesh.  Ultimately that painting sold for millions - don't know how the proceeds were divided up but tax payers probably didn't receive a nickel from the sale but the museum collected plenty from the exhibition.

I think as we get older our view of things are more traditional.  I don't have any tatoos but my Children have several each.  Now that they are older they are stuck with that perspective in time -
Quality is apparent to those who have been around long enough.  I'm laughing when I read Paul's response to the burlap finished crap.
What an embarrassment of craftsmanship - also remember the dung decorated Mary painting in the Brooklyn Museum.   I went to see that for myself and knew the world was going crazy with their take on expression.

Man that's a work shop and a half.  What's the width of that door opening and how far away from lighting fixtures are you ?

I think I only saw 4 slots for straps.  Very limited support especially if you use anything other than the Pirelli webbing.  The problem I had with a small job like that was the supplier would only sell me an entire Pirelli roll - over $ 100.00 if I remember correctly.
If the customer wants an exact decking restoration make sure they know it might not be as firm and last as long as what folks demand today

I never heard the word up cycled.  A goggle loose translation is re-purpose.  We all re-purpose items - I think of artists who make sculpture out of items thrown away.

It looks to me that the love seat in your photo is railroad but the light color doesn't highlight the shading as much -
I'd rather have the one continues piece

Finally finished the springs.  16 springs - I replaced the older ones that were rusted out.  Interestingly the previous center springs were softer than the edge springs - I guess so the sides wouldn't collapse in and the center would remain soft. For the new springs I used the same strength springs throughout and nearly a roll of spring twine.  Now I need to do some finishing work.  I'll cover the springs.  Some bleaching on the woods that never got lighter from the sun - seal, stain, and lacquer top coats.  I had some maroon mohair left over from another job but no the Mrs. wants to pick out something different.  She asks me how would paisley look - I didn't answer her

Thanks - I did add the rail - I was a little hesitant to do it so as not to crowd the springs (16) but they all fit when I placed them on top of the webbing -
I placed the new rail slightly below the side rails so that the webbing is hidden when you view the carved rail from the front

Bugs that steam can't kill ?   Mostly I try to copy what was there - I think you need to decide if you want a classical or a contemporary substrate.
A photo would be nice

I'm going to do the seat springs before finishing the chair due to the difficultly handling this size chair. I don't want to bruise the new finish while doing the seat.  I don't remember how the  straps were attached to the front rail - not seeing screw holes for a rail that was attached below the carvings.  I'm sure the straps weren't attached to the high + low of the carvings. Maybe the straps were just folded over and tacked into the face.   Does adding a rail even with the side rails sound right to you ?

Not only has the original estimate expired - don't things in general cost more today than 2 years ago.  Did she give you a deposit to hold down the price ?   Also the wing chair with strips would cause me to loose sleep as well trying to get the inside wings to match the adjoining panels -
Check that.... more like cause me to drink Smiley

I have the turkey cutter and another  tool specially designed for foam.  The turkey cutter is nice for rounding over the edge of a foam cushion or the edge of the foam after you glue it down to the top of an arm.  Th bigger cutter I have is called an Acu Cutter 350 it's the brand the local guy sells.  If you like to make straight 90 degree cuts with little effort for a box cushion or just sizing larger foam pieces this is a must have tool.
