Thanks Fella's

I still need to come up with a decent logo and then I may give that company a try.

Does anyone install a patch with your biz name and phone or web site to your finished canvas work, and if so where is a good place to obtain patches that will withstand outdoor use?

I got the same thing about a week or two ago. Some folks work very hard at trying not to work for a living!

I got mine though Yahoo as well as my web hosting service. They have my CC info on file and automatically renew it when it's due.

Nice Work! and you will get faster with practice. Upholstery work is like playing an instrument; you can read books, forum post and watch youtube videos until your blue in the face but it takes practice and a lot of it.

I still have a long way to go and am very slow myself, so I do upholstery work mostly during the slow times of my boat repair business. I enjoy doing this work and look forward to the increase of speed!

looks good tim nice shop too !
fyi here id get 1200 for the cover and 500 for a 4 bow and boot   ive had that happen not realizing it a larger frame and just assumed
that reminds me ive got a similar cover less the forward deck to do soon
Thanks Mike,

The shop is divided up so that boat would not fit inside and get the door down but I don't pay much rent so working out in the cold is a must.

Tim,

That looks real nice.  Has a real nice fit to it.
If you don't mind me asking,  what did you charge for the cover?  Take about 30 yards of 60" canvas?

Thanks Scott
Well, when I bid the job I did not realize that the bimini was a six bow top and I thought I was ordering extra material at 36 yards. As it turned out, I had to use a few scraps to make the boot. The bill came to just under 1200. Not sure how that compares, but with the amount of time I had in this, I didn't come out that great.

Yeah, the boat has an extra long bimini top too, took every bit of 36 yards for the whole job. I was good and tired of yellow by the time this one was done!

« on: March 20, 2013, 08:44:41 AM »
If someone made a magizine fed snap tool and I would not need the other belt!

With sore thumbs and fingers, and then that little rubber thingy that holds the button in place gets stiff from the cold. I spend more time fumbling around with snaps than sewing the cover!

I finally got around to making a tool belt. This one is for fitting the blank to the boat, and I plan to make another one for doing the final fit and snap installation.

Well Trivantage had some discontinued yellow Aqualon, so I went with what I'm used to working with.

All of my suppliers have my debit card on file so when I place an order it comes right out of my business checking account. Years ago, I was on open account and got a nice big invoice at the end of the month. This always freaked me out! I like the pay as you go plan, helps a fella sleep better.

Great Article, this is so needed today. I think most young folks today have no idea how to do anything that does not involve a computer, ipad, or smart phone. We have become a society of consumers instead of do'ers. Hopefully we will see more of this and in other trades as well like metal working, welding, cabniet making etc.

I was having the same problem a while back and I switched to the gun that is sold on this website. It uses 22gauge 3/8 crown staples. I never use the T-50 anymore and seldom have any staple problems. Those little fine wire 22 gauge staples work much better in plastic than the T-50's and they are cheaper too.
