The "GREEN" Room! / 23 regulator enclosure
« on: May 15, 2013, 11:31:39 AM »
23 regulator . New enclosure , strataglass , weblon regatta , hard polycarbonate windshield. This boat had track on it so there was at one time an enclosure but the owner had none of it. Re configured sides for track to track.

If they're soaked that bad , i'd replace them. PVC foam board or new ply at least.

General Discussion / Clothing from marine fabric !
« on: May 14, 2013, 10:39:13 AM »
Got this in my inbox today !!

I hope all is well this Friday.  I know this is your super busy time, so please let me apology up front if this request is a waste of your time.  That's not my intent.  I just wondered if I could pick your brain for a minute.

Have you ever considered -- or tried, bombed or maybe succeeded -- making some men's cargo shorts out of marine grade fabrics? I've been wondering if they would be durable and interesting to wear.

I should have come up with this idea in the depths of November -- when business is slow.  I hope you have a few minutes to reply.

Back to my idea -- I can't assume marine grade fabric cargo shorts would be the most comfortable pair of shorts one might own. But I have this idea in my head that they might look cool, be unique, and seldom wear out.

Any thoughts are welcomed.  If this is possible, might you be able to fabricate a pair for me? I could supply the fabric (or buy it off you) and provide the pattern and pay you.

All the best,
P.S. If this sounds like a crazy idea -- feel free to say, "Jeff, sorry dude, but you're crazy." I won't be offended
hmmmmmmm ?

General Discussion / Re: Canvas Training
« on: May 13, 2013, 08:56:42 AM »
Did the mcti training. Had the vids from northcoast. Watched them way before going to a course. They were a gift from the wife so I had no choice in the purchase. My Mom has a house in sarasota near mcti. Saved a bunch on housing. The instruction was awesome. It does help to have some experience prior As I had the same machine as the school and a couple years under my belt it was a easy learning curve for me.

Sounds like the rubber spring pad in an mg / mgb. I just re did a couple mg seats that someone took 1/2 in wood and wiretied that to the frame under the bun. What a hack to save $25 bucks. Take a look at the ones made for the mg's maybe you can make them work? They are readily available and cheap rather than re-inventing something.

General Discussion / Re: Need tips on sewing welt cord
« on: April 17, 2013, 09:48:00 PM »
What does it hurt if the edges aren't perfectly lined up here and there. It's on the inside ! The outside is what counts. After a while you'll see what works when you are folding your material over the welt cord to get a better result. I always made my own welt for the first 4-5 years I was doing this. Now I stock the white marine I use and make the rest.

That ought to keep them dry! Nice Mike.

Ok 4x as much as who makes? I did a zipper for a guy yesterday . Came in at 9 . called him at noon and said its done. $40 bucks , flipped me a 50 and said we're even. I will quote bloboaters only time plus materials. Don't get too many that will go for that but like right now in high season it's not worth my time to dick around.

General Discussion / Re: Why the Wrinkles
« on: April 01, 2013, 03:38:23 PM »
Looks great. I was gonna guess early 90's boat since the rear was all wood like that. I got into this gig the exat same way. 94 scarab w/ rotten hatch and rear seat. Did all the wood myself and took the interior to a shop that after 18 weeks didn't do a thing ! Bought a machine , took some classes , practiced on everything I could. The next season had a nice new interior! Guess in lake mead you'd want nothing but white. Just a bit hot there in the summer.
